For Chicago-area residents (or those willing to travel) this weekend provides an excellent reason to get outside and enjoy the summer: the Chicago Air and Water Show! In case you’re unfamiliar with the free and family-friendly annual event, here’s a basic rundown of what the two-day showcase entails: fun and exciting aviation performances by the likes of the U.S. Navy, Army and civilian groups staged in front of the picturesque Chicago shoreline and cityscape. One of the world’s most popular spectator events period, the event averages an annual audience of 2.2 million people each year and attracts the world’s best in aviation showmanship. This year that mans feature performances by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels as well as by the U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights, both of which are confirmed headliners.
So if you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, and you’re a fan of super-cool stuff happening way up in the sky, you should consider grabbing some chairs or a blanket, a cooler of drinks and snacks (nothing alcoholic though), and enjoying the day out in the sun with friends and family. Of course, it’s likely to be hot, so be sure to bring the proper protection: water, sunscreen, hats and so on. Also, as mentioned above, it’s likely to be CROWDED, so arrive early and plan accordingly. (Oh, it can also get loud at times: so consider bringing ear buds too.)
For more information on the event, including transportation, parking, and hotel reservations (for out-of-towners) check here. Also, if hanging out in the sun doesn’t sound fun, you can also listen in at WBBM AM which will be broadcasting live at the air and water show both days.
