With Autumn officially here and Halloween on it’s way, it’s about time to start figuring out costumes!  Costumes are a great way to show either what you’re currently into or express your personality.  They can be fun, scary, sexy or just plain innocent.  If you have children, they may have an idea of what they want to be already – in fact they may have been telling you since last Halloween what it is.  But if you don’t have kids or are heading out to a party this year you probably need something for yourself.  So, what  are some cool ideas?  What’s really popular this year?  Here are our top 10 costumes for this Halloween.

1. Vampire

We all know that Vampires are all the rage right now, what with the Twilight Saga taking hold and all of the new television shows making their debut’s.

 If you take this idea, you have a couple of options: go Victorian, go Goth, or go Modern.  But fangs, blood and a stark white face are key elements to keep in mind.  If you go modern (though it does not have to be a Twilight character) a fun addition would be a glittered face.

2. Jersey Shore

There is nothing more I need to say, but everyone loves to make fun of these outlandish people.  So, why not you?  If you choose to go as The Situation, you better have killer abs!

3. 1980′s Throwback

The fashions styles of the 1980′s are back in!  So it’s no wonder these costumes are at the top of the list.

4. Lady Gaga

This girl is crazy and popular (though I don’t know why) and her ensembles make for awesome Halloween attire.  If you choose this idea, check around for a different costume than the extremely popular.  Be different and wow them!

5. Mad Hatter

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland was a huge hit in the box office and these characters are also making it big in the halloween world because of their “darker side”.

6. Avatar – Neytiri and Jake

Enough said.  Avatar was one of the biggest films of all time and these costumes will make you surely stand out in a crowd.  And even though you ladies will be completely covered up, this is still a sexy costume.

7. Left 4 Dead – Infected

This video game has been growing increasingly popular over the last year or two and we are now seeing people creating costumes for this scary Zombie game.  This is for those of you who want to go really crazy this Halloween.  Have fun!

8. Donnie Darko - Frank the Bunny

This film may have bombed in the box office, but it has a cult following and is incredibly erie. Donnie’s hallucination friend comes to him dressed in a gray bunny suit with razor teeth and hollow white eyes. No one would be expecting a creepy, evil bunny to be attending this years Halloween bash.

9. Carrie

This classic horror film makes for a scary yet “not-too-sexy” look that will always be a popular choice.  Everyone will recognize and enjoy this costume and of course … the blood is a nice touch.

10. Star Wars

Always on the list, Star Wars is a hit no matter where you go.
