Halloween has become more than just a day to dress up and go trick-or-treating. It has taken over most of the month of October with spooky activities for all ages. Among other things to partake in this month, many folks find themselves at different amusement parks which have decided to cloak their surroundings with ghouls, goblins, and ghosts galore! Having attended a few of these scary locations myself, I wanted to help you plan your fun or frightful entertainment for the Halloween season.

Disneyland’s Halloween Time is a great place to bring your whole family. While some of these other amusement parks may not be suitable for children, this is sure to fill their eyes with visions of pumpkins while filling their stomachs with candy.
When entering Disneyland Park in California, you will be greeted with by the famous ‘Mickey Planter’ as it’s transformed into a canvas of pumpkins and even Mickey is wearing a mask for the celebration. Main Street has become the site of the “Pumpkin Festival” with pumpkins adorning the light posts and victorian shops. As you stroll around the park you will find that the Disney Villans are out in full force for their favorite time of year. And there is even more fun throughout the park! You can join in on a 3 hour Happiest Haunts Tour as well as a Costume Party and Trick-or-Treat time at Mickey’s Halloween Party. Afterwards, stop by the Haunted Mansion Holiday for a visit where you’ll find the ride has been transformed into ‘A Nightmare Before Christmas’ theme. And be sure to stay after dark for the “Halloween Screams” fireworks display hosted by Jack Skellington.
The event runs from Sept 17th-October 31st and costs the price of admission or additional ticketing for Mickey’s Halloween Party.

Knott’s Berry Farm’s Halloween Haunt was the first of it’s kind in adult scare entertainment. They create a complete transformation of the park into an in-our-face LIVE Halloween experience, priding themselves on creating a 160-acre living horror movie. Once you enter the park you are met with a wall of fog that follows you on your entire journey through 13 chilling mazes, 7 hair-raising shows and 3 horrific scare zones. And if you don’t think that is so bad, consider not being able to see the 1,000 monsters roaming the ‘Scary’ Farm streets in search of their next victim. It’s completely horrifying.
This Scary Farm runs from now until October 31st opening at 7pm and continuing into the wee hours of 1-2am. This event is huge and tickets must be purchased in advance. Trust me. I didn’t purchase tickets in advance one year and spent too much time in traffic only to find out it had been sold out for days.

Universal Studio’s Halloween Horror Night’s is really the scariest place to be for a Halloween scare. Every year they have a different theme, usually surrounding one of Universal’s films. However, this year’s theme is ‘What Fear Fear’s Most’ where they are incorporating several Universal Studio villains to make your fear, fear. When you enter you will make your way through different scare zones terrorized by killer Clowns, flesh-eating Freaks, asylum Lunatics and, for the first time, La Llorona (The Weeping Woman) who, after drowning her children and herself, returns to the living, wailing for her lost children and searching for new souls to replace them. Plus, the Tram which usually shows you the Universal Backlot, will not become a Terror Tram that’s been hijacked by serial killer Charles Lee Ray trapped inside the body of the pint-sized Chucky doll. Plus, you get the chance to ride the first-ever roundtrip express tram tour directly to Skull Island for Peter Jackson’s King Kong 360 3-D and other favorite rides. That’s not all! There will be 5 new mazes based on the most popular horror themes of all time:
- A Nightmare on Elm Street with Freddy Krueger
- Friday the 13th with Jason Voorhees
- Saw featuring horrific new traps from the film series
- House of 1000 Corpses in 3D Zombievision — created by horror expert Rob Zombie
- Vampyre: Castle of the Undead
Horror Night’s has already begun and runs until October 31st. So grab your tickets online before they sell out – which they do – and know that if you purchase at the door you will pay a higher price. Just check the availability at HalloweenHorrorNights.com

Six Flag’s Fright Fest is luckily available in many parts of the country unlike Knott’s Berry Farm (Orange, CA) and Universal Studio’s (only in Hollywood and Florida). So, you will have the opportunity to join in on signature Fright Fest features, including unique mazes, haunted houses, shows. Most of Six Flags’ roller coasters and non-water rides will be operating during the Fright Fest events. There will even be special events. For example, the Six Flags Over Georgia will invite guests to be buried alive – now I don’t now about that! But no matter which Six Flag’s Park you attend you will find haunted rides, wandering zombies and a lot of blood! Of course there will be no shortage of fake blood, but real blood is in high demand, therefor Six Flags will be teaming up with the Red Cross to conduct blood drives at all of its parks as part of Fright Fest.
Fright Fest runs every weekend in October and is included with Six Flags general admission. However, some of the parks charge an additional fee for some of the haunted houses. So, check with your local park for information.
